Last Week we continued our Lord's Prayer Sermon Series! We discussed the second line of the prayer: "Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven."

Sermon Series Review
We have now looked at 2 lines of the Lord's prayer! In case you missed those 2 worship services, below is a little summary and the sermon manuscripts to help you catch up.
Week 1 we talked about the first line of the prayer: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
A quick summary of the main points:
- Greeting God with "Our Father" is meant to be a familiar greeting for our God who is always listening and always approachable.
- We say OUR father (not my) and identify God who is in heaven. This part of the address reminds us that we are not alone in this faith thing and that God brings Heaven among us.
- Saying Hallowed by thy name is a declaration that God is holy and a reminder to ourselves to reflect God's holiness (good name) wherever we go.
Week 2 we looked at the second line of the prayer: Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.
A brief summary of the main points:
- Not MY, but THY. We are praying for GOD's kingdom and will here. This decenters ourselves and recognizes God as the one who we should center our lives and actions around.
- The Kingdom and Heaven referred to in this line are not about a physical location but as God is all around us and among us, that is where the Kingdom and Heaven are. We build the Kingdom wherever God's will is being lived out and we find Heaven on earth wherever we feel at one with God.
- Praying this line is two-fold: it is us asking God to help us see where God's Kingdom and Heaven is around us as well as reveal what God's will is; AND it is us telling God that we will work to help bring about the Kingdom/Heaven on Earth and follow God's will as best we can.
- We can look to plenty of scripture to help us figure out how we live out this commitment. For example: Matthew 5 (Beatitudes), Matthew 25 (caring for the least of these), Luke 17, Micah 6:8

Upcoming Worship Schedule
Summer Sunday Worship
We have started our Summer Worship Schedule: Sundays we worship 10am at Common Ground, together with both churches. Bring your chairs and we will spread out around the yard and join together in a more casual worship setting in God's creation!
Wednesday Evening Worship!
Every Wednesday Evening we are coming together for a more casual worship service in the Hopkins UMC sanctuary at 6:30pm. The service will focus around the same scripture, sermon, and prayers as Sunday morning, but will bring in some different music options. For those who are unable to worship in person, Pastor Kelsey shares this service live over Zoom.
Childcare will be provided in the basement of the church. This is a great option to invite people, outside of our church family, to try out! Let’s spread the word!

New Worship Service! Wednesday Evening Worship!
A lot of people spend weekends away from home during summer months, so it is the perfect time to add a mid-week worship option.
Every Wednesday Evening we are coming together for a more casual worship service in the Hopkins UMC sanctuary at 6:30pm. The service will focus around the same scripture, sermon, and prayers as Sunday morning, but will bring in some different music options. We also expect that the service will be a bit shorter than Sunday morning. For those who are unable to worship in person, we will share this service live over Zoom.
Childcare will be provided in the basement of the church.
This is a great option to invite people, outside of our church family, to try out! Let’s spread the word!
Church Potluck
To commemorate the closing of our timing together at Common Ground for the summer we are having a Potluck! It's been so long since we got to have a potluck!
After worship on August 29th, out at Common Ground, bring a dish to share and chairs you are comfortable eating in.
To celebrate getting to eat a meal all together again we will be gathering around the communion table during worship as well.
Bud’s Barn Clean-Out
We will be cleaning out and organizing Bud’s Barn on Sept 9th. We will start at 9am and provide lunch.
Before that date, please come and get any of your personal items that are in there. Let Pastor Kelsey or Mitzi know if you have to be let into the barn.

Transition from Summer to Fall!
Our last Sunday on the Summer schedule is September 5. Unless there is a weather concern, that Sunday we will be at Common Ground for that Sunday.
Our first Sunday on the Fall schedule is September 12. The Fall schedule will bring us back into our church buildings and two services. 9:30am at SMUMC and 11am at HUMC.

Fall Book Study
We will be reading & discussing Adam Hamilton’s “Making Sense of the Bible: Rediscovering the power of scripture today” starting the week of Sept 20th. You can read the book summary in the Aug/Sept Newsletter

Being Brave School Supply Project
The Being Brave group has decided to collect school supplies to distribute to school aged children who need them. The main focus will be for Foster Children. We will make the schools aware that we have them for anyone who might move in. We are asking for donations of backpacks, crayons, pencils, colored pencils, notebooks, folders, pencil boxes, markers, etc. There will be a collection basket at all of the worship services. Thanks for your help.
Mentoring at Hopkins Elementary
We believe that the mentoring program will be able to resume this fall. If you are interested in mentoring one or more students please talk to Alys. If you’re not sure what being a mentor involves, please ask. Those who have participated have found it to be a wonderful way to support a young person.
Food Pantry Update!
Thank you so much for your faithful donations and prayers for the building project!
The building is completely finished and the pantry is moving in, with hopes to function out of their new digs for the first time next week!
Senior Meals
Seniors meals is back! Every Mon., Wed., & Fri. at noon in HUM Hall.. Suggested donation: $2.75. Join together with our community for food and fellowship. How nice it is to be together in the hall again!
